And with that, the 2024 year comes to an end…
Over the past two months, I’ve made the decision to take my business more seriously. Being admitted as a vendor at the Native American Christmas Market gave me a renewed sense of optimism about my bakery for the first time in years.
Since starting in 2021, I’ve faced challenges, including reaching out to family and friends to offer my services with little success. While I’m deeply grateful for every person who has purchased something from me over the years, the journey hasn’t been what I initially expected. Things started slowly, but I’ve come a long way—from not knowing the first thing about baking a cake to developing techniques I’m proud of, working at established bakeries in Tulsa, and now attending my very first market!
Exactly four years ago, my New Year’s resolution for 2021 was to learn how to bake cakes. Since then, I’ve been offering cakes to friends and family on Facebook, hitting some exciting milestones along the way. The future feels bright, and I’m filled with ideas for how to keep growing.
My hope for this website is to present myself as polished and professional while sharing my journey. For years, I’ve worked to build the reputation of well-established companies, and now I feel it’s time to profit from my own skills and dedication.
Finding work as a baker has been challenging, especially since I homeschool my daughter, Eden. Keeping her close as she grows is deeply meaningful to me, but it also means traditional bakery hours—like starting work at 5 a.m.—simply aren’t feasible. While this schedule makes sense for most bakeries, it leaves little room for me to advance my career without taking the entrepreneurial path.
This year, I ask for your well-wishes as I work to turn this dream into reality. My goal is to teach my daughter that hard work and dedication pay off and that carving your own path in life is worth the obstacles you face.
My mother embodies the spirit of independence, and I believe her example unintentionally fueled my desire to be self-employed. I’ve seen the uncertainty that comes with being a small business owner, but I’ve also learned that staying true to yourself and your heart makes it worthwhile.
Thank you for being here, and I hope you’ll return to check in on me and my progress in the future. At your next event, instead of settling for a cake that’s been frozen for months, made with Crisco icing and artificial preservatives, I hope you’ll think of me. Each purchase you make not only provides you with fresh, handmade treats but also directly helps me support my family.
I’ve reached a glass ceiling in the world of pastry that I can only break through with the support of my community. If you’d like to help but feel burdened by the price, please use the code BESTIE at checkout for a friends-and-family discount—it’s my small way of showing gratitude for your support.
I made this car decal for my back windshield, so wave if you see me!
